About WIISE
Our Vision: Integrating Innovation, Law, and Social Impact
WIISE (Workable Ideas and Initiatives for a Sustainable Economy) S.r.l. Benefit Company stands as a strategic hub for legal, technical-regulatory, and strategic consultancy within the global agrifood sector.
As a Benefit Company, WIISE places sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and food ethics at the heart of its vision, ensuring that every project contributes to the common good.
We operate as a strategic bridge between high-level research and market reality, ensuring that technical breakthroughs translate into compliant, profitable, and replicable industrial realities across the European Union.
Our Roots: FARE
Founded in 2012 and based in Rome, Italy, WIISE is built upon the specialized expertise of its FARE (Food and Agriculture Requirements) division—the operational heart of the organization providing strategic, legal, technical, and commercial consultancy for the global agri-food sector.
WIISE represents the culmination of founder Dario Dongo’s extensive thirty-year career, which spans from a PhD in food legislation to serving as head of legal affairs for the Italian companies of the Ferruzzi Group. His subsequent role as head of EU and regulatory policies at Federalimentare provided an deep understanding of the operational needs of large industrial groups and the complex lobbying dynamics of the European Union.
WIISE was conceived to fill a critical gap in the market by integrating legal, technical, regulatory, and public relations services into a single platform that operates on both national and international scales.
Strategic Evolution: Entering the EU Research Arena
In 2019, a pivotal milestone in our history was the decision to leverage this deep industrial and regulatory expertise within the framework of EU Research and Innovation. Recognizing that technical breakthroughs often stall at the regulatory threshold, we began our participation in EU-funded projects to stay ahead of sectoral innovation and bring cutting-edge knowledge back to our consultancy. Conversely, we utilize our frontline experience with industry needs to help orient EU policy and research toward the sustainable growth of the sector.
Since entering this arena, WIISE has demonstrated a proven capacity to contributing to international multi-actor consortia within significant frameworks such as Horizon Europe, H2020, and PRIMA.
Our participation focuses on integrating “Regulatory-by-Design” strategies into the innovation lifecycle, ensuring that advancements—such as microalgae proteins, camel dairy products, and circular bio-based materials—successfully navigate complex EU safety and quality standards.
Through leadership roles in projects like CAMELMILK, ProFuture, EcoeFISHent, and WASTELESS, we have mastered the management of Novel Food authorizations, the use of nutrition and health claims for marketing exploitation and the creation of legal frameworks for “upcycled” ingredients.
Our work aligns with the pillars of the EU Green Deal and its Farm to Fork Strategy, and the Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), specifically targeting the circular bioeconomy, sustainable materials, and the digital transition in the agrifood value chain.
A Holistic Ecosystem for a Sustainable Future
Today, WIISE serves as the central hub of a broader, values-driven ecosystem dedicated to fundamental rights, sustainable technology, and international research. As the primary entity involved in EU projects, WIISE leverages its specialized division, FARE, which remains fully operative as a 360-degree consultancy firm providing legal, technical, and strategic support to the global agrifood industry.
This collaborative environment is further supported by our proprietary information platforms, Great Italian Food Trade (GIFT) and Food Times, which provide high-level visibility to project results while advocating for a more transparent and equitable agrifood system.
The WIISE Ecosystem also includes the non-profit organization Égalité, which advocates for inclusion and fundamental rights, focused on providing sustainable technological solutions and work opportunities for vulnerable individuals.
By combining multidisciplinary mastery and a holistic perspective on the emerging scenarios related to Food and Society, we pursue a deep-rooted commitment to social and environmental value, while working toward policy changes and industrial innovation that is sound and operationally viable for all stakeholders.
The company WIISE has developed as an ecosystem of activities that range from research and development to consulting and specialized information serving the growth of agrifood operators, supported by initiatives aimed at overcoming social inequalities.
