POLICY ANALYSIS AND RECCOMENDATIONS:

TRANSLATING INNOVATION INTO LEGISLATIVE CHANGE

The transition to more sustainable food systems is often slowed by a “language barrier” between scientific research and legislative action. While a project may produce groundbreaking data on sustainability or nutrition, that data often remains “untranslated” for policymakers. To influence the EU regulatory framework, project findings must be presented as evidence-based insights that align with official EU statistical nomenclatures, safety standards, and strategic policies and initiatives like the Green Deal. Without this translation, even the most impactful results fail to reach the desks of decision-makers in Brussels.

We specialize in translating technical project findings into clear, evidence-based policy recommendations. By analysing data against the EU regulatory framework and mapping results to official nomenclatures, we provide the European Commission and Member States with the legal clarity needed to harmonise standards and support the transition to more sustainable food systems.

Our approach goes beyond summarizing results; we act as a “Technical-Legal Mediator.” We ensure that the data generated by scientists is structured to meet the stringent reporting requirements of institutional bodies, thereby turning project outputs into “policy-ready” assets.

Our participation in flagship European projects demonstrates our ability to transform technical milestones into high-impact policy briefs and recommendations:

In the WASTELESS project, we addressed the “data fragmentation” crisis that hinders EU waste reduction targets. We developed a system to synchronize commercial logistics with official EU statistical nomenclatures (NACE/CPA codes). This work provides bodies like the JRC (Joint Research Centre) and Eurostat with the harmonized data needed to monitor progress toward the Farm to Fork targets.

In the ProFuture project, as a leader within the Horizon4Proteins cluster, we spearheaded policy advocacy for microalgae proteins. We co-authored high-impact briefs that identified the specific “regulatory ceilings” preventing the scaling of sustainable proteins, providing the European Commission with a roadmap to streamline authorization processes without compromising safety.

For the EcoeFISHent project,we authored best-practice policy briefs that bridge the gap between regional pilot results and European legislative reform. By analysing the transition from Animal By-Products (ABP) to high-value ingredients, we provided a legal blueprint for the “Blue Circular Economy” that is now being used to inform regional and EU-level bio-based strategies.

Our work in the CAMELMILK project involved a rigorous analysis of cross-border regulatory alignment. We provided recommendations for the alignment of safety standards between non-EU countries and the EU, creating a legal pathway for traditional “superfoods” to be recognized within the European regulatory framework.

We ensure that the consortium’s output isn’t just a report, but a “policy-ready” asset positioned for industrial scaling and 450 million European consumers.

Our involvement has supported projects selected from hundreds of submissions.

We provide proven success in navigating complex frameworks like Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 for Novel Foods or Animal By-Products (ABP) legislation.

Presenting project recommendations directly to relevant EU agencies and Member State working groups.

By partnering with us, your consortium ensures that its legacy extends beyond the project’s end date. We provide the “legal voice” necessary to ensure your research contributes to the harmonization of European standards, dismantling the barriers to innovation and securing a seat at the table where the future of food is decided.
